This Arthur Miller play reveals a dramatization of a series of events that led to witch hunts in the 1690s; however, he wrote the play in response to a friend turning in a list of people to Senator Joe McCarthy's Communists witch hunt in the 1950s. Write complete paragraphs in standard English to respond to the following about The Crucible.
The needle and the doll are representative of witchcraft, or 'voodoo'. Abigail stabbed herself with a needle in order to accuse Elizabeth of using witchcraft because of a needle being present in the doll Mary Warren gifted to her. This in turn made it seem as though Abigail was stabbed through the doll as is custom in voodoo dolls.
ReplyDeleteWell done! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe significant of the needle in the doll is it shows a form of witchcraft. The doll supposedly symbols Abigail. Mary Warren framed Elizabeth as a witch by giving her the doll

Always ask yourself the question, "How?" This will help clarify your answers significantly.
DeleteThe symbolism and significance with the needle and the doll is the act of voodoo. They made it look as tho Elizabeth created it to get back at Abigail ,but honestly Abigail had it all set up . It looked real because Abigail was in horrific pain while the needle was stuck into the doll.
ReplyDeleteYes, they made it look as though Elizabeth had created it to take revenge on Abigail, but Abigail did manipulate the situation in order for Elizabeth's guilt to be proven.
